Solar System
Welcome to the website for Swedish researchers researching the Solar System, from the smallest comets and asteroids to the largest gas giants.
This is the public forum for scientists at Swedish institutions who study processes throughout the Solar System, ranging from planetary geology to magnetospheres. Swedish researchers are heavily involved in many ESA and NASA missions to locations throughout the Solar System, such as BepiColombo, Venus Express, Mars Express and MAVEN, Rosetta, JUICE, and Cassini, among others. Using these missions, we study the interaction of the solar wind with different types of magnetospheres, planetary ionospheres and atmospheres, and surface processes such as space weathering and impact cratering.
Our research is accomplished using multiple techniques, including plasma and neutral particle sensors, magnetic and electric field instruments, lab experiments, and computer models. Institutes in Sweden studying the Solar System are listed below.
