Atmospheric Physics

Welcome to the website for Swedish researchers researching Atmospheric Physics!

Research in Atmospheric Physics (or Atmospheric Sciences) addresses processes that
determine the properties and variability of our atmosphere. This ranges from the Earth’s
surface to space, thus including studies of the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere and
thermosphere. This also includes interactions with other parts of the climate system and with our solar-terrestrial environment. There is thus substantial overlap with other SRS
communities (Earth Observation, Space Plasma, Solar System etc.).

Ongoing SRS-related activities in atmospheric physics in Sweden comprise
  • Atmospheric dynamics, waves and coupling between atmospheric regions
  • Aerosol and cloud processes
  • Radiative processes, photochemistry and airglow
  • Earth’s energy (im)balance
  • Atmospheric variability and trends
  • Extreme weather
  • Weather forecast models
  • Remote sensing and in situ instrumentation
  • Retrieval techniques and data assimilation
  • Satellite mission development
  • Space debris
  • Neutral atmosphere / ionosphere interactions
